We at Godfreys have heard them all, jokes about lawyers we mean.
One misapprehension seemingly held by many, is that lawyers drive flash cars.
We may have added to that commonly held belief in that three members of the firm currently drive Mercedes-Benz motor cars. Ah hah we hear you say, just proves it.
However, we are different. Yes, they are Mercedes Benz, a classy and prestigious marque of motor vehicle. However, our people are discerning. Not a flashy new model for our staff, we drive more classical and evocative vehicles dating back to times of pure quality and superb German engineering.
We start with one of the Partners of the firm, Brad McDonald. His vehicle is a 2008 C63 AMG station wagon (or shooting brake). No turbo-powered engine in that vehicle, just a classical family wagon with a motor that does not need a computer engineer to tinker with at every service interval.
Andy Ogilvie, an Associate with the firm has as his pride of place in his garage a 1985 230E sedan, said to be one of the finest mid-range saloons ever produced by Mercedes Benz. It certainly turns heads when it is allowed out for a run, on fine days. That car was previously owned by a family member in England, and following his death, Andy tracked it down some 10 years later, repurchased it and brought it out to New Zealand.
Finally, our Employment Specialist, James Hobcraft has a lovely 1992 190E Saloon. These were an extremely popular “entry level” model reliable as clockwork, and a superb drive. Although the car is now 30 years old, James still gets considerable enjoyment out of driving that car around Christchurch, and there are many examples of that model still on the road performing sterling service here in New Zealand as they have more benign road and weather conditions than those in Europe and UK endured especially with no salt on the roads to combat snow and ice, the rust problem is less of an issue in New Zealand.
All our staff members really enjoy following the star. (The star is the 3-pointed trademark of Mercedes Benz).
