Well, they say there is a time for everything in life and no constant expect that of change. Over the last 5 years I have had the absolute pleasure and honour to be a trustee on the board of Life Education Trust Canterbury but I have now decided the time is right for me to step back and let someone else have a crack.
Life Education began in Christchurch in 1988 in a static classroom and has evolved to operate three mobile classrooms with three qualified Life Education Educators.
Life Education Trust Canterbury delivers the Life Education programme as far as the Hurunui District through to the Rakaia Region and reaches up to 20,000 plus children each year in 80 different primary and intermediate schools across the Canterbury region.
Being a health resource, Life Education takes children on a journey through five subject strands; self-esteem, food and nutrition, body knowledge, social relationships and substances. Exploring these strands helps them to understand the wonder of their own bodies, and how best to take care of them. The Canterbury Trust has been active for 30 years, which has given it a proud history in the community and helped the Trust’s programmes become respected in the education sector.
Over the almost 6 years since I have been a board member I have been able to assist the Trust with my experience and insight at board level, aid with legal matters and get stuck in and roll my sleeves up including manning gigantic sausage sizzles, releasing and collecting ducks on the river Avon for the annual Life Education ‘Great Duck Race’ and planning other fundraising events for the Trust.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the Trust in an effort to help the children of Canterbury make healthy life decisions. Although I am departing, I am thrilled that I am able to pass the torch along to Raajan Sami (Litigation Associate) of Godfreys Law who is stepping into my vacant spot on the Board. This transition means that Godfreys Law can continue its association with this wonderful Trust into the future. I am looking forward to seeing the energy and perspective that Raajan will bring to the Trust Board and wish him all the very best.
